Wills & Bequests
You can leave the legacy of a gift to Lummi Island Heritage Trust through the thoughtful use of your will, while preserving as much of your estate as possible through tax benefits. Bequests to the Heritage Trust are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.
Donors can use the bequest provisions in their wills to endow an annual contribution, place conservation easements on land, or make a special gift that will enhance the Heritage Trust's ability to protect more land in the future. Donors can also use their wills to establish a life income gift that will provide income to their heirs and long-term support to Heritage Trust.
Bequests may be for a specific amount of money, personal property, or real estate. They may also be for a portion of the residual estate (that portion of the estate that is left after other gifts have been made). Finally, a contingent bequest can provide for a gift if one or more of the other named beneficiaries does not survive the donor.
Donors may leave bequests on an unrestricted basis for the general purposes of Heritage Trust or for particular purposes such as land acquisition or stewardship. Please contact us for examples of language to include in your will for different types of bequests. You and your attorney will decide which is best suited to your personal vision and your estate planning needs.
