Land & Easements
Since 1998, the Heritage Trust has partnered with our island community to protect 1088 acres of forest, farmland, wetlands and undeveloped shorelines on Lummi Island. The Heritage Trust acquires land by purchase or donation, and also works with landowners who want to protect their private land with conservation easements.
The Heritage Trust owns and manages three beautiful nature preserves. The Otto Preserve, the Curry Preserve, and the Baker Preserve protect plant, bird and other wildlife habitat, and are places where people can experience nature. On September 30, 2015 we purchased the 105 acre quarry land property.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Heritage Trust Resource Center at the Otto Preserve for information about wildlife, plants, and island history, and to learn more about our nature preserves and land conservation on Lummi Island.
