History
Founded in 1998, Lummi Island Heritage Trust is a private, non-profit land trust dedicated to preserving land on Lummi Island. The Heritage Trust has protected over 983 acres of our island's precious natural areas- forever. Of this, 283 acres are owned by the Heritage Trust, including land managed as nature preserves, wildlife habitat, and forests. The remaining 700 acres are private lands protected by conservation easements. Our land conservation work is not finished. The Heritage Trust is poised to protect over 140 more acres of private land with conservation easements. These exciting land protection opportunities will conserve open fields with fertile agricultural soils, wetlands that hold precious groundwater, and vital habitat for wildlife, birds and native plants.
